Solid Waste Technician carries out technical and operational tasks in the management of solid and hazardous waste, including collection, sorting, treatment, recycling, and disposal. They ensure waste management activities comply with environmental regulations and safety standards, support waste reduction and recycling initiatives, monitor processing operations, conduct inspections, and maintain equipment, working closely with environmental engineers and municipal authorities to promote efficient and environmentally responsible waste management.
Tasks
Operate, maintain, and assist in repairing waste collection vehicles and processing equipment.
Separate recyclables, hazardous, and difficult-to-handle wastes into designated areas.
Monitor landfill sites and waste processing facilities under supervision to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Conduct inspections, document operations, and maintain records of waste types and volumes.
Assist in maintaining cleanliness and safety of work areas.
Assist in responding to environmental hazards or incidents related to waste handling.
Identify potential hazards and follow safety procedures under guidance.
Assist in testing and maintaining equipment for pollution control and site restoration.
