Chemistry Technician assists chemists and scientists by conducting chemical and physical tests, monitoring and supporting chemical processes, and analysing substances in laboratories or production facilities. They perform hands-on laboratory work, prepare chemical solutions, record and report data, and help ensure product quality, safety, and process efficiency, supporting research and development, quality control, and production across industries such as pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, food, and environmental testing.

Tasks

Conduct chemical and microbiological analyses on samples using laboratory techniques such as spectroscopy, chromatography and titration.

Collect, prepare and handle samples, reagents and laboratory materials for testing and analysis.

Prepare chemical solutions and reagents accurately according to specified procedures.

Operate, calibrate and maintain laboratory and process instruments and equipment.

Monitor chemical processes and equipment to ensure operations comply with specified parameters and standards.

Record and document experimental data, test results and process information, and prepare basic reports.

Check product and sample quality to ensure compliance with required specifications and standards.

Assist in troubleshooting technical or process issues during laboratory testing or production activities.

Support research and development activities through laboratory testing and experimentation.

Follow laboratory safety procedures, including the safe handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals and materials.

Knowledge in interpreting basic data, test results, and process performance.

Knowledge in supporting research and development activities in laboratory settings.

Knowledge in troubleshooting equipment, technical, and process-related issues.

Proficiency in monitoring and operating laboratory and industrial process equipment safely.

Proficiency in operating and maintaining laboratory instruments, including Gas Chromatography (GC), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), spectrophotometers, pH meters, balances, and chromatography systems.

Proficiency in preparing chemical samples and performing titrations accurately.
