Orthopaedic Physical Therapist assesses, diagnoses and treats musculoskeletal and neuromusculoskeletal conditions affecting bones, joints, muscles and related structures, with the aim of restoring movement, reducing pain and improving functional independence. They design and implement individualised rehabilitation programmes using physical and manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and patient education to manage injuries, congenital conditions, age-related impairments and chronic diseases. They may collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to support recovery, prevent complications and promote long-term mobility and physical wellbeing.
Tasks
Perform comprehensive assessments of patients with musculoskeletal and neuromuskuloskeletal conditions to identify dysfunctions, pain sources, and functional limitations.
Develop and implement individualised rehabilitation and therapeutic exercise programmes to restore movement, reduce pain, and improve functional independence.
Administer physiotherapy interventions, including manual therapy, joint mobilisation, stretching, massage, and the use of rehabilitation equipment as appropriate.
Conduct clinical assessments and interpret findings to support diagnosis, treatment planning, and the use of orthotic or supportive interventions where required.
Provide guidance on the selection, fitting, and use of orthotic, prosthetic, or other supportive rehabilitation devices as appropriate.
Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans, and maintain accurate records of care, rehabilitation outcomes, and follow-up needs.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals and caregivers to ensure coordinated multidisciplinary management and continuity of care.
Maintain professional knowledge and apply evidence-based practices to improve rehabilitation outcomes and patient care.
