GREEN
Green jobs are decent jobs that contribute to preserve or restore the environment, be they in traditional sectors such as manufacturing and construction, or in new, emerging green sectors such as renewable energy and energy efficiency
Chemical Engineer designs, develops, and optimises large-scale chemical and physical processes to transform raw materials into useful products. They work in industries such as pharmaceuticals, food and drink, plastics, rubber, cement, paper, energy, and oil and gas, applying principles of chemistry, physics, biology, and engineering to improve efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance. The role involves scaling laboratory processes to industrial production, enhancing yields, reducing waste, and ensuring adherence to regulatory and safety standards while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Tasks
Conduct research and use laboratory data to develop or improve chemical processes.
Design and develop commercial-scale chemical processes and equipment for production and refining.
Scale up laboratory processes for industrial use, ensuring safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
Establish production methods, material specifications, and quality standards for chemical processes and products.
Analyse and troubleshoot production issues, including equipment failures and material defects.
Optimise processes to improve yield, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency.
Develop operating and control procedures to support safety, environmental protection, and process performance.
Use software to simulate chemical reactions and model production systems.
Conduct safety analyses, such as Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP), to identify and mitigate risks.
Collaborate with operations, quality control, and product development teams to support process implementation and improvement.
Skills
Basic
Analytical skills to diagnose problems and test solutions.
Complex problem-solving to address production and process issues.
