Kitchen Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of a kitchen by assisting chefs and cooks with basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, chopping and portioning ingredients, and by helping with the preparation of simple food or beverages under supervision. The role is also responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order in the kitchen, including washing dishes, utensils and equipment, cleaning work areas, and organising supplies. Kitchen Assistants ensure that cooking areas are clean, stocked and ready, enabling kitchen activities to run smoothly and efficiently.
Tasks
Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, cutting, chopping, and portioning vegetables, fruits, meat, and seafood.
Assist chefs and cooks with basic food preparation tasks such as weighing, mixing, and preparing ingredients.
Help with simple cooking or food assembly tasks under supervision.
Assemble and plate dishes for serving as required.
Wash dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and cooking tools by hand or use dishwashing machines.
Clean kitchen surfaces, equipment, utensils, and food preparation and serving areas regularly.
Open, store, and organise raw materials and ingredients in refrigerators, cupboards, or designated storage areas.
Restock kitchen supplies and ingredients and maintain adequate stock levels.
Dispose of kitchen waste properly to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
Follow food safety, hygiene, and health regulations at all times.
