Steward/Kitchen Steward assists with routine kitchen operations in food service establishments by supporting basic food preparation and maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards. The role involves washing and sanitising dishes, utensils, cookware and equipment, cleaning work areas and floors, handling waste, and receiving, storing and organising food supplies in accordance with safe handling practices. Kitchen stewards support chefs and kitchen staff to ensure smooth daily operations in restaurants, catering services and similar food production environments.
Tasks
Assist with basic food preparation by washing, peeling, cutting, or mixing ingredients.
Wash, scrub, and sanitise dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment by hand or using dishwashing machines.
Scrape food waste from dishes and operate dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently.
Clean kitchen surfaces, floors, food preparation areas, and serving counters.
Dispose of kitchen waste and maintain cleanliness in work and waste disposal areas.
Open, store, and organise raw materials in refrigerators or designated storage areas.
Assemble simple dishes or prepare basic food items under supervision when required.
Organise kitchen supplies, dry and stack clean items, and maintain stock levels.
Restock cleaning supplies and maintain cleaning tools and equipment.
