Horticultural Labourer assists in the cultivation, maintenance, and care of trees, shrubs, flowers, and other plants in nurseries, gardens, parks, and recreational areas. They perform routine tasks such as planting, watering, pruning, weeding, and harvesting, and contribute to the upkeep of green spaces, playgrounds, and golf course grounds to ensure safety, aesthetics, and plant health. Their work may also include preparing plants for sale or transplantation and supporting the maintenance of facilities and equipment associated with horticultural environments.
Tasks
Plant, transplant, and propagate trees, shrubs, flowers, and other plants in gardens, parks, nurseries, and landscaped areas.
Prepare soil and planting areas, including digging, mulching, and general ground preparation.
Water, fertilise, and apply pesticides or insecticides to plants according to safety guidelines.
Prune, trim, cut, and shape trees, shrubs, and plants to support healthy growth and remove hazards.
Operate and maintain horticultural tools and equipment such as chainsaws, mowers, clippers, edging tools, and irrigation systems.
Remove dead, excess, or hazardous branches and clear vegetation, leaves, and debris from work areas.
Maintain landscaped areas such as playgrounds, parks, golf courses, and nurseries, including mowing, raking, and general upkeep.
Carry out basic maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs in outdoor recreational or landscaped areas.

Basic
Ability to work outdoors in various conditions, including at heights where required.
Attention to detail in maintaining plants, grounds, and facilities.
Basic knowledge of plant care, tree maintenance, and general horticultural practices.
Physical stamina to carry out manual horticultural and maintenance work.
Time management and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Ability to recognise common plant pests and apply basic treatment methods.
