Tasks
Operate cranes and hoisting equipment to lift, move, position, and place materials, machinery, and cargo.
Conduct pre-operation inspections to ensure equipment safety, functionality, and readiness.
Interpret load charts and lifting plans and select appropriate lifting gear and secure loads correctly.
Coordinate with riggers, signalers, ground personnel, and supervisors to ensure safe and efficient lifting operations.
Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on cranes and hoisting equipment.
Adhere to safety regulations, protocols, and industry standards and prevent accidents.
Monitor equipment and operations and troubleshoot issues to maintain continuous and safe functioning.
Transfer, stack, and organise materials, cargo, and machinery in designated locations.
Maintain accurate records of operations, equipment usage, inspections, and incidents.
Respond to emergencies or operational malfunctions and minimise risk and ensure safety.
Skills
Basic
Ability to follow occupational safety and health procedures and lifting safety regulations to prevent accidents.
Attention to detail to monitor equipment and system performance, conduct inspections, and identify faults or hazards promptly.
Physical fitness to operate equipment for extended periods and work in physically demanding or high-risk environments.
Problem-solving skills to address operational issues and respond appropriately to emergencies.
Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with team members, supervisors and, where applicable, passengers.
Specific
Ability to conduct routine inspections, basic maintenance, and equipment fault diagnosis.
Ability to interpret and follow work orders, lifting plans, and inventory documentation.
Knowledge of load capacities, load charts, and equipment limitations.
Knowledge of safety regulations, emergency procedures, and occupational safety standards.
Knowledge of signalling methods and control systems used in lifting operations.
Proficiency in operating cranes, hoists, and material handling equipment.
