Setter-Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining production machinery to manufacture a range of materials and products. They prepare machines for production runs, adjust settings, load materials, and monitor operations to ensure efficiency, quality, and compliance with safety standards. The role may involve working with different materials, including stone, and performing tasks such as shaping, forming, or finishing components according to specifications.

Tasks

Set up and align machines, tools, fixtures, and workpieces for production runs.

Interpret technical drawings and specifications to determine machine settings and production requirements.

Operate and monitor machines such as lathes, milling, boring, drilling, grinding, and honing machines.

Select, install, and adjust appropriate tools and attachments for stone shaping and finishing.

Inspect finished products for quality, accuracy, and dimensional compliance.

Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and replacement of worn parts.

Monitor machine performance and adjust settings to correct malfunctions or deviations.

Select and grade slabs and blocks of granite, marble, and other stone for processing.

Cut, shape, finish, and mark stone materials using machines and hand-powered tools.

Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment.

Competency in adjusting machine parameters and tooling to meet production specifications and material requirements.

Competency in handling and processing materials, including specialised materials such as stone.

Experience with carrying out routine and preventive maintenance to maintain machine performance and minimise downtime.

Proficiency in operating and setting up industrial machinery, including Computer Numerical Control and other production equipment for machining or forming tasks.

Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as callipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify dimensions and tolerances.
