Miner is responsible for extracting minerals such as coal, tin, gold, bauxite, and rare earth materials from underground and surface mines. The role involves operating heavy machinery, performing drilling and blasting activities, handling geological conditions, and maintaining mining equipment, all while adhering to strict safety protocols. Miners work in physically demanding and often hazardous environments, collaborating with engineers and geologists to ensure efficient and safe mineral extraction.

Tasks

Extract coal, ore and other solid minerals from underground or open cast mines using appropriate mining methods.

Set up and operate drilling, blasting and cutting equipment to break rock or coal seams.

Install and maintain roof supports, props and ventilation systems to ensure underground stability and safety.

Operate and monitor heavy mining machinery, including loaders, shearers and conveyors.

Load, transport and transfer extracted materials to designated surface or processing areas.

Monitor mine conditions, including wall and roof stability, air quality and gas levels, and take corrective action where required.

Collect mineral samples for laboratory testing and quality assessment.

Conduct routine inspection, maintenance and minor repair of mining equipment and tools.

Carry out safety checks, report hazards, maintain production records and ensure compliance with occupational safety and environmental regulations.
