The role involves fabricating and fitting insulation to control temperature, minimise energy loss, and reduce the transmission of heat, cold, sound, smoke or fire. They support the safe and efficient operation of mechanical systems in residential, commercial and industrial settings.
Tasks
Interpret plans, specifications and work instructions to determine insulation requirements for refrigeration systems.
Measure, cut and shape insulation materials to specified sizes and configurations.
Apply and secure insulation to refrigeration pipes, tanks, ducts and air-conditioning units.
Blow or pack insulating materials into cavities and confined spaces within refrigeration systems.
Fit slabs, sheets and other insulation forms to equipment and pipework.
Seal joints and ensure proper alignment and finishing to maintain thermal efficiency and prevent moisture ingress.
Inspect completed insulation work to ensure integrity, performance and compliance with specifications.
Maintain records of insulation activities and materials used.
