They are responsible for cultivating field, tree, shrub, and vegetable crops, managing livestock such as poultry, goats, and cattle, and maintaining farm infrastructure, including land preparation, planting, irrigation, pest and disease control, harvesting, and basic equipment upkeep. Their work emphasizes self-sufficiency, small-scale production, and sustainable management of household food resources.

Tasks

Prepare and maintain farmland and small plots for mixed crop and livestock activities.

Determine the types and quantities of crops and livestock to produce based on household needs and available resources.

Plant, cultivate, and harvest crops using mainly manual or simple farming methods.

Manage soil fertility, irrigation, and fertilisation using basic or traditional practices.

Monitor crops for pests and diseases and apply basic control measures.

Breed, raise, feed, and tend livestock to maintain health and productivity.

Maintain animal shelters, manage grazing or forage, and ensure basic animal hygiene.

Harvest, process, store, and preserve crops and livestock products for household use or sale.

Purchase animals, seeds, fertilisers, fodder, and other essential farm inputs.

Keep simple records of farm activities and sell or barter surplus produce in local markets when applicable.
