Forest Guard Grade G1, G2, G3, G4: state Forestry Department - Responsible for carrying out work in implementing all forest development activities, forest harvesting, wood-based industries, forest produce extraction, recreational forests, nurseries, and law enforcement in accordance with the National Forestry Act. Sarawak State Forestry Department - Responsible as the head and officer-in-charge for supervising and monitoring forestry activities to ensure alignment with government regulations, directions, and policies by carrying out administrative and management duties in the field and within forest areas for forest development works, forest management, forest operations, forest research, timber industries, forest plantations, gazettement of forest areas in the field, including enforcement duties under the Forest Ordinance, National Parks Ordinance, and Wildlife Ordinance. The scope and functions of Forest Rangers in the Sarawak Forest Department are subject to the diversity of functions of the units and divisions to which they are assigned. There are 10 divisions and four regional forest offices in the Sarawak Forest Department.
Tasks
Supervising and protecting forest areas within the boundaries of forest reserves (Permanent Reserved Forests and State Land Forests).
Conducting law enforcement activities and exercising authority under the National Forestry Act, including detaining, arresting, and seizing offenders.
Carrying out field operations for forest management, forest operations, forest research, timber industry, forest plantations, gazetting of forest areas, and enforcement under the Forest Ordinance, National Parks Ordinance, and Wildlife Ordinance.
Performing measurements and tax assessments for forest product extraction at Forest Inspection Halls (Inland and Mangrove Forests).
Monitoring harvesting activities in all licensed areas to ensure compliance with MS ISO 9001:2008 guidelines and MC&I certification.
Conducting patrols of Permanent Reserved Forests and State Land Forests to prevent encroachment and illegal logging.
Ensuring field work procedures are followed and enforced by logging companies and forestry agencies.
Collecting and recording field data for work planning and preparing monthly and annual progress reports.
Performing all activities within the Forestry Enforcement Unit, including license verification, public complaint investigations, patrols, raids, arrests, and coordinated operations.
Acting as an investigative officer for enforcement under the Forest Ordinance, National Parks Ordinance, and Wildlife Ordinance.
