Livestock Breeder breeds and rears animals and other commercially or agriculturally important species, including livestock, bees and selected reptiles or invertebrates, for the production of food, fibre, by-products or for conservation and research purposes. The role involves selecting breeding stock, managing reproduction and growth cycles, maintaining appropriate housing and environmental conditions, and safeguarding animal health, hygiene and biosecurity. Breeders monitor production outputs, maintain relevant records, and ensure compliance with animal welfare, agricultural and wildlife regulations.

Tasks

Select and manage breeding stock based on observable traits and production requirements.

Carry out mating, breeding, and reproduction activities according to established schedules and practices.

Breed, raise, feed, and care for livestock and other farmed animals or insects.

Monitor animal or insect health, welfare, growth, and offspring development, and apply disease control measures.

Provide appropriate nutrition and manage feeding practices according to species requirements.

Maintain and manage housing, enclosures, hives, ponds, beds, or other breeding facilities.

Harvest, handle, and carry out basic processing of animal or insect products such as young stock, honey, and cocoons.

Maintain records of breeding, health, production, and stock numbers.

Follow biosecurity, safety, and environmental regulations and standards in farm operations.
