Computer Console Operator operates and monitors computer systems and associated peripheral equipment to ensure continuous and accurate processing of data and information. They oversee system performance, run scheduled jobs, initiate backups, detect and resolve operational faults, and escalate technical issues where necessary to maintain system availability and integrity. The role also includes operating and maintaining peripheral devices such as high-speed printers and related equipment, ensuring outputs meet required standards and production schedules, and maintaining operational records for audit and troubleshooting purposes.

Tasks

Monitor and operate computer systems, mainframes, servers, and peripheral equipment to ensure proper processing of jobs.

Detect and address basic hardware, software, or printing issues, and escalate complex issues to supervisors or technical teams.

Perform system startup, shutdown, and basic routine maintenance and cleaning of computer and peripheral equipment.

Run scheduled jobs and batch processes, and manage outputs including printed reports, tapes, or digital data.

Set up, calibrate, and perform basic maintenance of high-speed printers and other output devices, ensuring accuracy and quality.

Load consumables and replace minor components to support continuous equipment operation.

Maintain logs of system events, errors, maintenance activities, and production performance.

Ensure compliance with security protocols to protect system and data integrity.

Retrieve, sort, and distribute program outputs to designated users or departments.
