Ophthalmic Assistant supports an ophthalmologist or other eye care professional by performing basic clinical and administrative tasks to ensure smooth patient care. They conduct an eye test, assist with a diagnostic or surgical procedure, prepare a patient for treatment, and maintain a clinical and sterile environment, while also managing scheduling and inventory to support the efficient operation of an ophthalmic clinic or hospital.

Tasks

Conduct visual acuity tests, tonometry, and assist with ophthalmic imaging techniques.

Prepare patients for ophthalmic procedures, assist during surgeries, and maintain sterile conditions.

Guide patients through clinical visits and provide pre- and post-procedure instructions related to eye care procedures.

Schedule procedures, manage operating theatre bookings, and monitor ophthalmic supplies and inventory.

Maintain accurate patient records, clinical documentation, and administrative data in accordance with healthcare standards.

Assist in providing treatment for minor eye conditions under the supervision of an ophthalmologist or optometrist.

Perform basic ophthalmic clinical procedures, such as administering eye drops and preparing instruments.

Provide guidance and support to junior staff during clinical activities when required.
