Assistant Veterinary Officer Grade G5 responsible for managing and administering the District Veterinary Services Office, overseeing the Animal Quarantine Centre, managing the Departmental Abattoir Complex, the Milk Industry Servicing Centres (PPIT), the Veterinary Extension Centre (VetEC), the Animal Breeding Centre (PTH), and the Livestock Integration Target Areas. Responsible for updating data in computerised information systems, managing livestock records related to departmental assistance, implementing livestock industry development and monitoring programmes, and conducting veterinary extension programmes, advisory services, and consultations for departmental clients. Responsible for assisting Veterinary Officers in disease surveillance and control of livestock, treating animals in need, implementing animal research programmes, livestock breeding programmes, and livestock vaccination programmes, assisting in surgical procedures (including post-mortem) and specimen processing, and serving as a resource officer and trainer in the field of veterinary science.
Tasks
Conducting fertility, suitability, and health assessments of animals for breeding and livestock production.
Monitoring breeding performance, animal output, and health status in the field.
Implementing the Veterinary Extension Programme (PPV) to enhance industry yield and upstream and downstream livestock development.
Monitoring livestock business premises, processing plants, slaughterhouses, abattoir complexes, PPIT, and the Veterinary Extension Centre (VetEC) to ensure quality, safety, and hygiene.
Conducting surveillance, sampling, and audits of premises, livestock products, animal feed, and documentation, including animal transfer health certificates.
Implementing control, prevention, and eradication programmes for zoonotic animal diseases, as well as animal vaccination programmes.
Utilising new technologies and innovations to improve field operations efficiency.
Coordinating the selection and distribution of government-assisted livestock to farmers and target groups.
Managing and supervising PPIT, abattoir complexes, VetEC, Targeted Integration Areas (KTS), and District Veterinary Service Offices.
Preparing censuses, updating data, and producing annual reports and industry information, including poultry, farms, and livestock owners.
