Physiology Technician conducts clinical and laboratory tests on body fluid or tissue specimens to assess and improve human health or determine causes of illness or death. They perform chemical analyses, operate and maintain laboratory equipment, assist in experiments, monitor vital signs, and interpret results to support diagnosis and treatment, while also providing guidance on the use of a medical or orthotic device and supervising junior staff.
Tasks
Collect, prepare, evaluate, and analyse biological specimens such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, and report laboratory findings to medical personnel.
Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
Assist in physiological and medical research experiments, and record observations, data, and findings accurately.
Monitor patients’ physiological responses during testing or treatment and identify potential health issues.
Support rehabilitation programmes by assisting patients with exercises, demonstrating rehabilitation equipment use, and providing guidance on orthotic or supportive devices.
Supervise and coordinate tasks of laboratory or support staff when required.
