Fishery Assistant Grade G1 responsible to help plan, formulate and coordinate the development of the country's fisheries sector effectively to achieve the department’s overall mission, vision, and objectives. Assist in preparing robust and relevant sectoral and strategic plans to support the development of the county’s fisheries sector. Responsible for collecting and processing fisheries data and information efficiently and effectively. Responsible for delivering extension services to target groups through the dissemination and communication of fisheries information, development of agri-based industry entrepreneurs, development of fishing communities, technology transfer, post-harvest handling, and provision of technical advisory services for the fisheries industry. Responsible for assisting in facilitating the implementation of aquaculture development projects to achieve fish production targets through aquaculture activities.

Tasks

Supervising, collecting, processing, and analysing data on fish landings, exports/imports, aquaculture, and reports.

Supporting Fisheries Officers in data management, documentation, exhibitions, publicity, and the preparation of departmental reports and publications.

Managing biosecurity, files, correspondence, farm, vessel, and premises registration, and dissemination of up-to-date documents/data.

Assisting in the enforcement of the Fisheries Act, monitoring patrol boats, conducting SAR operations, handling intrusions, disposals, and vessel auctions.

Managing licensing, permits, Sailing Pass Certificates (SPC), sanctuary areas, endangered species, and regulation of fisheries operators.

Supporting the implementation of programmes and activities for fish processing development, technology transfer, processing equipment, fish handling, and provision of technical advisory services to target groups.

Supervising aquaculture development, fish farming, shrimp import/export, permit issuance, and CITES farm registration.

Managing human resources, courses, training, postgraduate studies, trainee management, innovation activities, and preparation of training equipment.

Supporting legal matters, preparation of case information, lectures, briefings, review of draft agreements/memorandums of understanding (MOUs), and assessment of catch records.
