Hatchery Assistant supports the daily operations of a hatchery by assisting with the handling and care of eggs and newly hatched stock, monitoring incubation conditions, and maintaining appropriate environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity and water quality. The role includes observing stock health, identifying pests or diseases and supporting the implementation of treatment and biosecurity measures, as well as maintaining accurate production and hatchery records. Tasks
Handle eggs and larvae carefully to minimise damage.
Prepare and maintain incubation equipment, monitoring temperature and humidity conditions.
Clean and disinfect trays, tanks, and other hatchery equipment to ensure hygiene and biosecurity.
Assist in sorting and packing newly hatched chicks or fish fry.
Maintain accurate records of hatch rates, mortalities, and health observations.
Monitor the health and behaviour of hatchlings and report concerns to relevant personnel.
Coordinate with veterinary or aquaculture staff for health checks and treatments.
Follow biosecurity protocols to prevent contamination and disease spread.
Prepare and collect specimens, materials, and equipment for laboratory tests and experiments.
Collect operational data and estimate quantities and costs of materials and labour for hatchery activities.
