Fishery Technician supports the development, operation and monitoring of aquaculture and fisheries activities, including the cultivation, breeding and harvesting of fish, shellfish and other aquatic species. They maintain aquatic environments, conduct water quality assessments, monitor fish health and growth, collect and record biological data, and assist in research, conservation and stock management activities. The role also ensures that fisheries operations are carried out in accordance with regulatory requirements and sustainable resource management practices.
Tasks
Monitor the health, growth, and development of fish and other aquatic organisms in aquaculture systems.
Conduct water quality tests and maintain optimal environmental conditions in aquaculture systems.
Manage feeding schedules and assist in fish breeding and spawning programmes.
Clean, disinfect, and maintain tanks, ponds, and aquaculture equipment to ensure hygiene and biosecurity.
Maintain accurate records on fish growth, feed usage, mortality, and operational data.
Assist with fish harvesting, stock preparation, and release activities.
Support disease prevention and comply with biosecurity, environmental, and regulatory guidelines.
Assist in research activities, including sample collection and analysis for fishery improvement.
Operate, repair, and monitor filtration systems, pumps, and other aquaculture equipment.
