Power Generating Plant Operator manages the production and distribution of electricity by operating, monitoring, and maintaining equipment such as reactors, turbines, generators, and switchboards in a power station or control centre. They ensure safe, reliable, and efficient power generation across various energy sources including nuclear, hydroelectric, steam, geothermal, natural gas, biomass, and tidal by controlling system parameters, performing inspections, responding to alarms or abnormalities, and coordinating maintenance activities, maintaining continuous energy supply, system stability, and compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
Tasks
Monitor and operate power generation systems across coal, oil, gas, hydroelectric, nuclear, and renewable energy plants.
Control boilers, turbines, generators, condensers, reactors, and related equipment to maintain stable power output, load, frequency, and voltage.
Monitor control panels, meters, gauges, and instrumentation to detect faults or abnormalities and respond promptly.
Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on plant machinery and equipment.
Adjust system controls and operational parameters to optimise electricity production and maintain grid stability.
Record operational data, maintain logs, and report performance, incidents, and anomalies to supervisors.
Coordinate with maintenance, engineering, and system operators for repairs, start-ups, shutdowns, and emergency procedures.
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, including specialised energy protocols where applicable.
Participate in drills, training, and emergency preparedness activities to ensure operational readiness.
Support process improvements to enhance efficiency, reliability, and plant performance.
