Water Quality Technician is responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability, and compliance of water and wastewater systems. They monitor, operate, and maintain treatment and supply equipment, conduct routine inspections, collect and analyse water samples, and support purification and treatment processes, safeguarding public health, ensuring environmental compliance, and contributing to sustainable water management for communities and industries.
Tasks
Monitor and operate water and wastewater treatment plants and associated equipment under supervision.
Collect water and wastewater samples and perform laboratory tests for physical, chemical, and biological quality under guidance.
Maintain, calibrate, and assist in repairing treatment equipment, pumps, valves, and instruments.
Record, analyse, and report operational and test data under supervision.
Inspect pipelines, machinery, and treatment systems to ensure proper functioning.
Adjust chemical treatment levels under supervision to maintain water safety and treatment efficiency.
Assist in responding to system malfunctions, emergencies, contamination events, or environmental hazards.
Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations and follow appropriate safety procedures.
Assist in water conservation and environmental recovery activities.

Knowledge of chemical dosing and water treatment processes, including biological, chemical, and physical methods.
Proficiency in operating and maintaining water and wastewater treatment systems, including pumps, aerators, and filtration equipment.
Proficiency in using and calibrating laboratory and field testing instruments, including pH meters, turbidity meters, spectrophotometers, and chemical test kits.
Proficiency in using software tools for environmental data monitoring and analysis.
