Geospatial Technician collects, analyses, and manages spatial data using geographic information systems (GIS) and related technologies. They create and maintain maps, databases, and navigation systems to support planning, engineering, surveying, and resource management, conducting field data collection and validation, and ensuring data accuracy to inform land use, construction, environmental, and development decisions.

Tasks

Collect spatial and geographic data using Global Positioning System (GPS) devices, field surveys, or remote sensing under guidance.

Identify and define cartographic elements for accurate map presentation.

Compile, digitise, and maintain Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.

Create and produce maps using GIS software under supervision.

Conduct quality checks and correct errors in spatial data.

Verify GIS data accuracy through field checks and reconcile discrepancies.

Prepare basic reports and visual presentations from spatial data.

Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Strong attention to detail for accurate handling and production of spatial data and maps.
