Electrical High Voltage Technician installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs high voltage electrical systems and equipment, including substations, transformers, switchgear, and power transmission lines operating above 1,000 volts. They ensure the safety, reliability, and efficient operation of electrical infrastructure by performing inspections, diagnosing faults, supporting commissioning, and adhering to safety standards, collaborating with engineers and technical teams, managing documentation, and contributing to the planning and execution of upgrades and maintenance across industrial, commercial, and utility networks.

Tasks

Inspect, maintain, and repair high voltage equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switchgears, and protection relays.

Install, commission, and modify high voltage electrical systems, including overhead and underground distribution lines and grounding systems.

Perform diagnostic testing and analysis using specialised tools such as insulation testers, relay testers, and thermal cameras.

Follow and enforce strict electrical safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures.

Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and condition assessments to prevent faults and minimise downtime.

Maintain accurate technical documentation, maintenance logs, and compliance reports.

Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders for troubleshooting and emergency response.

Supervise and provide guidance to junior technicians and apprentices.

Respond promptly to electrical outages, faults, or emergencies to restore system operation.
