Quantity Surveyor Assistant supports the management and control of costs for building and civil engineering projects by assisting in the preparation of cost estimates, bills of quantities, tender and contract documents. They conduct site measurements, analyse plans and budgets, monitor project expenditures, and help administer contracts to ensure works are delivered within approved financial parameters. Working under the supervision of a Quantity Surveyor, they liaise with contractors, suppliers and other construction professionals to provide accurate cost information and support effective financial and contractual management throughout the project lifecycle.
Tasks
Assist in the preparation of detailed bills of quantities (BOQ), cost estimates, and budgets for construction projects.
Collect, record, and compile data from site visits, construction plans, and tender documents.
Measure and record quantities of materials, labour, and resources, and maintain accurate project cost records.
Assist in preparing and processing quotations, subcontract documents, and payments under supervision, liaising with contractors, suppliers, and site managers.
Assist in procurement and tendering activities, including documentation and coordination with suppliers.
Conduct site visits and surveys to assist in monitoring progress and validating work, and report on compliance with technical specifications and safety requirements.
Assist in contract administration and variation order documentation, and support the handling of financial or contractual issues.
Provide support in the preparation of reports, documentation, and basic project analysis.
Use relevant software tools to track costs, quantities, and project progress efficiently.
Skills
Basic
Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and understand construction methods and materials.
Attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness of data.
Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing tools, and ability to follow instructions under supervision.
Good communication and interpersonal skills for coordination and reporting.
Strong numerical and mathematical skills for accurate measurements, cost calculations, and analysis.
Specific
Knowledge of assisting in cost estimation, budgeting, and tender documentation preparation.
Knowledge of compliance with work safety regulations, site requirements, and material standards.
Knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and project management practices in Malaysia.
Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and terminology used in construction projects.
Knowledge of preparing reports on project progress, costs, and technical documentation.
Knowledge of reading and interpreting architectural, structural, and engineering drawings.
Proficiency in Quantity Surveying software such as CostX and BuildSoft, and digital drafting tools.
