Assistant Civil Engineer supports senior engineers in planning, designing, and supervising construction and infrastructure projects. They assist in developing civil and structural designs, conduct site inspections, coordinate with contractors and clients, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, while also preparing engineering reports, managing project documentation, supporting cost estimation and material selection, and bridging office planning with on-site execution across civil, mechanical, or electrical disciplines.

Tasks

Assisting in the preparation, review, and updating of engineering designs, drawings, plans, and specifications.

Conducting site inspections to monitor project progress, verify design adherence, and ensure safety compliance.

Supporting senior engineers with material testing, quality control, and technical troubleshooting.

Preparing technical reports, documentation, schedules, and progress updates for projects.

Coordinating with contractors, consultants, suppliers, and other stakeholders for project execution.

Assisting in project cost estimation, budgeting, and supporting resource planning activities.

Using engineering software tools such as AutoCAD and Microsoft Project (MS Project) for design support, scheduling, and reporting.

Providing technical assistance and collaborating with engineers and workers to support process improvements.

Ensuring projects comply with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards.

Maintaining technical records, research materials, and engineering documentation.

Skills

Basic

Ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.

Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and technical documentation.

Good organisational, time management, and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency in commonly used languages for effective communication.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with team members and stakeholders.

Specific

Knowledge in basic cost estimation and project budgeting support.

Knowledge in civil engineering principles, including load analysis and structural concepts.

Knowledge in conducting site inspections, surveys, and basic material and safety tests such as soil compaction and concrete slump tests.

Knowledge in preparing technical documentation, reports, and engineering specifications.

Knowledge in workplace safety practices and site safety compliance.

Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and Malaysian building codes and standards such as Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR), Malaysian Standards (MS), and Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH).

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, SolidWorks, or other relevant Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.

Proficiency in project management tools and techniques such as Gantt charts and Microsoft Project (MS Project).
