Network Specialist designs, implements and maintains an organisation’s network infrastructure to ensure reliable, secure and efficient data communications. The role analyses network requirements, develops architecture strategies, configures and manages network hardware and software, and monitors and optimises performance across wired and wireless environments. They also troubleshoot complex network issues, plan enhancements, and collaborate with related IT functions to maintain system integrity, scalability and availability.

Tasks

Monitor, analyse, and evaluate network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance.

Design, configure, and manage network hardware and architecture, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.

Implement and maintain network security measures, including Virtual Private Network (VPN) and firewalls.

Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve network issues.

Monitor network performance metrics and ensure high availability.

Assess and recommend improvements to network operations and integrated systems.

Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, procedures, and changes.

Collaborate with information technology (IT) teams, vendors, and service providers to ensure network systems meet organisational requirements.
