Food Technology Officer Grade C9 collectively act as planners of the national Food Safety and Quality Programme. Food Technology Officers lead and spearhead areas of food safety such as Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), ISO 9000, risk analysis, predictive microbiology, biotechnology, including genetic engineering, and others. At the international level, Food Technology Officers provide technical contributions to realise the nation’s aspiration to become a leader and to spearhead efforts in addressing food safety issues discussed at Codex, SPS, APEC, and ASEAN meetings, in order to protect national interests and promote the national Food Safety and Quality Programme. Food Technology Officers are also responsible for carrying out halal certification duties, including application processing, inspection, and monitoring from technical, hygiene, and sanitation aspects, ensuring food safety at KEMAS kindergartens, conducting research, and coordinating training.
Tasks
Responsible for implementing Ministry of Health Malaysia policies related to food import activities at the country’s entry points.
Providing technical advice in the field of food technology (Food Processing, HACCP, GMP, etc.), food analysis, halal issues, and food safety issues.
Coordinating monitoring of QAP (NIA) Food Safety & Quality achievements, prepares reports, and takes appropriate action on SIQ (Shortfall in Quality).
Analysing food samples as provided under the Food Act 1983 and Food Regulations 1985.
Conducting surveillance audits of the food industry under HACCP certification, audits based on MS 1500:2004 (Halal Standard) and GMP, and act as Codex Contact Point (CCP) for Malaysia.
Serving as the focal point for the International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN).
Collecting and processing information/data related to section activities for the purpose of preparing reports, preparing technical information/reports/data on monitoring and research activities.
Inspecting premises/slaughterhouses for halal verification or monitoring.
Preparing Implementation Guidelines for the Supplementary Food Programme at KEMAS kindergartens/daycare and food specifications for procurement at headquarters.
