Competent Person (CP) - Waste Management oversees the management and operation of waste treatment and disposal systems to safeguard environmental quality and workplace health. They assess and monitor waste management processes in industrial, commercial and municipal settings, ensure compliance with environmental legislation and regulatory standards, and maintain required records and reporting. The role includes supervising treatment operations, coordinating maintenance and safety procedures, and supporting measures to prevent environmental pollution and health risks arising from waste handling and disposal.
Tasks
Supervise the operation and maintenance of waste treatment and disposal systems to meet regulatory standards.
Monitor waste treatment performance, effluent quality, and other environmental parameters regularly.
Inspect treatment facilities, systems, and equipment to ensure proper functioning.
Maintain records and prepare compliance and performance reports in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Investigate environmental and health hazards arising from waste handling and disposal, and implement corrective measures.
Develop, implement, and review waste management and safety procedures to minimise environmental and occupational risks.
Manage the safe storage and use of treatment chemicals.
Coordinate with environmental agencies and internal teams on regulatory compliance matters.
