Competent Person (CP) - Boilerman is responsible for the supervision, operation and maintenance of industrial boiler and heating systems, including low- and high-pressure boilers, within facilities such as power plants and large buildings. The role oversees installation, inspection, repair and preventive maintenance activities. They may also coordinate and supervise boilermen and technical staff, manage energy utilisation, and respond to operational faults or emergencies to minimise risks and downtime.
Tasks
Oversee daily boiler operations to ensure safe and efficient performance.
Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance of boiler systems and related equipment.
Ensure compliance with occupational safety, health, environmental, and boiler operation regulations and standards.
Supervise and provide guidance to boilermen and maintenance personnel.
Establish and enforce boiler operating procedures and safe work practices, including emergency response procedures.
Troubleshoot boiler malfunctions and coordinate corrective actions during equipment failures.
Monitor boiler performance and analyse operational data to improve efficiency, reliability, and energy utilisation.
Maintain accurate operational, maintenance, and safety records and reports.
Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to support boiler reliability and plant operations.

Basic
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and engineering diagrams.
Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting.
Monitoring system performance and proactively identifying issues.
Sound decision-making skills and judgement, particularly in emergencies.
Thorough understanding of boiler operations and safety practices.
Specific
Ability to analyse boiler operational data to optimise efficiency and performance.
Ability to train and supervise boilermen and maintenance personnel.
Competency in boiler safety inspection, compliance monitoring, and corrective action implementation.
Knowledge in energy utilisation and boiler efficiency optimisation.
Knowledge in steam systems and their industrial applications.
Proficiency in reading instrumentation panels and using automated boiler control systems.
Proficiency in the operation and maintenance of fire-tube and water-tube boilers.
