Railway and Locomotive Operation Officer is responsible for operating locomotives to transport passengers and freight safely and efficiently. They manage train movements on the ground, coordinating with dispatchers and control centres, and monitor speed, braking, and signals while responding to changing track and weather conditions. The role requires strict adherence to safety and operational procedures and a thorough understanding of train handling techniques.

Tasks

Operate locomotives along scheduled routes to transport passengers and freight safely and efficiently.

Conduct pre-departure inspections to ensure locomotives and train systems are in proper working condition.

Interpret railway signals and follow operational procedures to ensure safe train movements.

Monitor locomotive and train system performance during operation, and identify or report faults or irregularities.

Maintain communication with dispatchers and control centres for track clearance, operational instructions, and schedule updates.

Monitor track, traffic, and weather conditions to ensure safe train operations.

Respond to operational incidents and carry out emergency procedures in accordance with railway safety requirements.

Maintain accurate operational records, including trip logs, incidents, and train system conditions.
