Factories and Machinery Inspector Grade J9 enforces three (3) principal Acts, namely the Factories and Machinery Act (FMA) 1967, the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 1994, and the Petroleum (Safety Measures) Act 1984 / Petroleum Transportation through Pipelines Regulations 1985, conduct promotion related to occupational safety and health, and prepare compliance and implementation standards for the enforced legislation across ten (10) economic sectors or all workplaces.
Tasks

Conducting requirements studies for software development for risk analysis, and ensuring that risk analysis maintenance software is implemented within the stipulated timeframe.
Processing applications for approval of industrial hygiene equipment, silent rooms, personal protective equipment, and sandblasting equipment.
Formulating procedures, guidelines, codes of practice, standards, and regulations related to industrial hygiene equipment, silent rooms, personal protective equipment, and sandblasting equipment.
Conducting inspections and compliance assessments of manufacturers under the CIMAH regulations, including safety reports, emergency plans, and demonstrations of safe operation.
Issuing installation approvals (PTI) for pipeline systems, evaluating applications for repairs and modifications, and conducting site inspections and hydrostatic tests.
Reviewing, processing, and examining calculations, conducting inspections, and verifying design specifications for fire-tube steam boilers, water-tube steam boilers, and heat recovery steam boilers in accordance with recognised codes.
Reviewing, processing, and granting approval for the registration of gas contractors, lifting machine installation companies, and construction machinery operators, as well as certifies safety officers, and Dredger Masters/Internal Combustion Engine Engineers/Steam Engineers.
Managing the registration of platform operations and engineering construction works, conducting risk-based inspections, and performing hydrostatic/pneumatic tests and certified machinery operation tests.
Collecting information and preparing schedules for monitoring industrial sectors to determine the effectiveness of occupational safety and health administration and enforcement at these premises.
