GREEN
Green jobs are decent jobs that contribute to preserve or restore the environment, be they in traditional sectors such as manufacturing and construction, or in new, emerging green sectors such as renewable energy and energy efficiency
Petroleum Mining Engineer evaluates oil and gas fields and designs methods to extract hydrocarbons efficiently, safely, and with minimal environmental impact. They plan, develop, and manage drilling and production operations, optimise reservoir performance, and oversee the construction and operation of extraction systems. The engineer collaborates with geologists, drilling teams, and other specialists to resolve technical challenges, improve processes and equipment, and ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and environmental standards across onshore and offshore sites.
Tasks
Plan, design, and manage oil and gas drilling and extraction operations.
Analyse geological and reservoir data to determine suitable extraction methods, equipment, and well placement.
Develop and implement extraction and production processes to maximise recovery, efficiency, and safety.
Oversee the installation, operation, and maintenance of drilling equipment and associated support systems.
Monitor and evaluate drilling and production operations, and adjust methods to reduce downtime and improve output.
Conduct research and development to improve extraction techniques, equipment, and operational performance.
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards across drilling and production operations.
Prepare technical documentation, reports, budgets, and operational project plans.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and specialists to optimise drilling and production operations.
Support technical audits and operational readiness assessments to maintain safe and efficient operations.
