Environmental Research Scientist conducts research to assess and mitigate the impact of human activities on the environment and public health. They study air, water, soil, and ecosystems, analyse environmental data, and develop strategies for pollution control, conservation, and sustainable resource management. Their work supports environmental policy, sustainable development, and natural resource preservation, often involving fieldwork, research, and collaboration with government agencies, industries, and communities.

Tasks

Plan and conduct field and laboratory research to monitor air, water, soil, biodiversity, and ecosystem health.

Collect samples and analyse environmental and ecological data to evaluate changes and impacts.

Conduct surveys and studies of wildlife, plants, insects, and other organisms to support environmental assessment, and maintain related biological records and databases.

Design and support environmental impact assessments, conservation projects, and restoration initiatives through scientific research and analysis.

Evaluate the effects of pollution, land use changes, and human activities on natural habitats and species.

Develop and recommend strategies for environmental conservation, remediation, and sustainable management.

Use specialised scientific tools and techniques, including laboratory instruments, environmental monitoring tools, and remote sensing, to study ecosystems and environmental conditions.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders on environmental research and management projects.

Communicate findings through reports, scientific publications, and presentations to support policy and public awareness.

Support community and stakeholder engagement on environmental protection, compliance, and sustainable practices through research findings and technical advice.
