Operator (Sawmill) manages and operates machinery that processes raw timber into lumber, plywood, veneer, and other wood products. They set up, monitor, and adjust equipment for sawing, drying, seasoning, and other wood treatments to ensure quality and compliance with industry standards. The role includes inspecting finished products, handling timber materials, performing routine maintenance, and strictly following safety protocols to maintain efficient and secure production.

Tasks

Operate sawmill machinery, including band saws, circular saws, planers, and timber drying equipment, to process wood and veneer into required sizes and shapes.

Inspect logs, processed timber, and finished products for defects, moisture levels, and quality standards.

Adjust machine settings, in-feed systems, and drying parameters to maintain production efficiency and precise product dimensions.

Load and unload raw timber and manage placement or automatic feeding of workpieces safely.

Perform routine cleaning, preventive maintenance, and minor troubleshooting to ensure optimal machine performance and reduce downtime.

Monitor temperature, humidity, and chemical treatments during wood seasoning and drying processes.

Apply chemicals to timber safely to enhance durability and prevent deterioration, following proper handling and storage procedures.

Maintain accurate production logs, records of machine performance, and quality control data.

Ensure adherence to safety procedures, including wearing appropriate protective equipment and following workplace protocols.

Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the work area to meet hygiene and safety standards.
