Machine Operator (Laundering) operates and monitors industrial laundry, dry cleaning, pressing, and fabric treatment machines in commercial laundries, hospitals, hotels, and garment production facilities. They are responsible for ensuring garments and textiles are cleaned, treated, and pressed to required quality standards, while maintaining machinery and adhering to safety and hygiene protocols.

Tasks

Sort articles by type, colour, fabric, and required cleaning treatment.

Load and unload washing machines, dryers, and extractors.

Add detergents and chemicals in correct amounts.

Operate and monitor commercial washing, drying, and ironing equipment.

Inspect laundered items for cleanliness, wear, and damage.

Check and treat stains, and perform minor repairs such as replacing buttons.

Place sorted articles onto conveyors or containers for cleaning or repair.

Record machine operation data and production output.

Ability to follow instructions and work independently.

Basic literacy and numeracy skills for basic work tasks.

Good physical stamina, including the ability to stand for long periods.
